Otsu
Sakamoto flourished as the location of a town lodge for the monks of Enryakuji,
Mt. Hiei. The town is famous for its stone foundation walls, skillfully
built during the Warring States Period (1467-1568). (Designated an Important
Traditional Structures Preservation Area by the national government in
1997)
